Pirates In Marin
| Description |
I joined a friend for an early morning hike down to Kirby Cove. The heavy layer of clouds began to break up about an hour after sunrise giving some streaks of color to the sky.
A trio of fishermen arrived and indicated that we were encroaching upon "their" spot; we held our ground and they went elsewhere. I suddenly remembered that all fisherman carry a good knife, so let's say our return to the trailhead was enough indication for me that this was a successful mission.
At one end of the little beach is this curious wooden mass. In the dark, we thought it was a random piece of driftwood or a recently washed up log. Later, we were pleased to see the identifying features of a WWII-era mooring camel, possibly used when ships were berthed at this beach.
