Theater Courtyard
| Description |
I experimented with using correct white balance, but I prefer the mood of the green color cast for this nighttime setting with the soft lens. I believe I shot it at f/4.5 - with this lens the camera stops recording the aperture at around this point. Notice how there's a mild softening effect on the bench, with a more noticeable effect around the rim of the fountain. This aperture helped smooth out the otherwise harsh octagonal highlights on the street lamps in the background, while leaving the 'Carmady' shop sign completely legible. It also makes the (blown out) movie theater entrance unrecognizable - an effect completely different than I could achieve using the FA31 - with the FA31 the theater is still blown out but the signs are recognizable (which I didn't like as much here).
Since the FA28 Soft lens isn't very common, I've also uploaded an example from the FA31 at f/1.8 and one from the K50/1.2 at near wide-open, for comparison. All shots were focused on the vertical line on the base of the pool (just left of the center of the frame here). The other two shots are from a slightly different angle, but it should still give a good idea of the difference between this soft lens and a standard one.
