I was very skeptical of this lens, given both the reviews here, and having the FA 35/2, DFA 50/2.8 macro, and the 77. Surely I couldn't justify keeping the 43, given how sharp the DFA 50 macro is.
But this AIV version is now the sharpest lens I have (out of 12)

There's a lot of choice for vintage 28mm primes even if you stick to Pentax.
I found samples on this forum to my taste and for the cost thought this was worth a whirl.
Build quality is typcial M series and it is a pleasure to use.
I really like the rendering, output is quite recognisable.an

Was going through some old pics and noticed some Pentax-A 135mm shots I hadn't seen in a while. The lens in focus is quite sharp especially in a now 30 year old or more lens. LOTS of purple fringing shooting into the sun or very bright sky. Still, it is a nice lens that can perform to this day. Re. ...

I had previously owned the SMC version of the 40/2.8 and found my copy to. be less than stellar. I sold it with a camera and swore I wouldn't buy another pancake lens.

I received this lens in a fleabay package deal with a K1000, and I ignored it totally for months, but I have come to adore it deeply, to the point that it is my favorite lens. Not my favorite Pentax lens, not my favorite 50mm lens, not my favorite fast lens, but just my favorite lens period. I love ...

I've had this lens for quite long time already, but I had recently opportunity to test it against fixed focal Sigma 500mm lens.

ing to Sigma, Pentax is much lighter to carry around, gathers less light, is better balanced, has better tripod collar and lens hood. Pentax has also better auto...

I'm not accustomed to using high-end gear, so that may color my review a bit. I'd also suggest also reading other reviews if you want a technical breakdown. The negative reviews and oft-mentioned shortcomings of this lens used to bother me. And I suppose that if you're after maximum technical image ...

I have wanted this lens for a very long time (since the 90s), and I finally got it . It is a must-have for any manual Pentax film camera users who enjoy shooting portraits.
| | SMC Pentax-DA 50mm F1.8 Review |
I just wanted a lens with a short telephoto reach, that was light, had a wide aperture and could be used for street photography. This lens was inexpensive, so I took a chance. It checked all the boxes and I am pleased with the results. I encourage you to take advantage of the versatility and value t...

Not bad, really. A little compact gem of a 50mm lens. On film cameras - remembering that when you rate a lens on a digital sensor and processor you are not rating only the lens - this is a pretty fine lens. It does everything you'd expect of a decent 50mm lens to a very good standard. About f4 to f1...
