Pros: 3d Pop, color punch, contrast just right, image quality
Cons: slow, barrel distortion, vignetting until f9.5, not close focusing
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 9    Bokeh: 9    Handling: 10    Value: 8

I've had a chance to use this lens for more than a year on my full frame Sony bodies. It's an excellent lens, usually the one I prefer for landscapes and scenics where I don't mind the barrel distortion or vignetting, or when I am stopping down enough that it doesn't show (f9.5 completely gone.) Image quality is excellent with this lens. It has a real lifelike feel and glowy at f4. Great for black and white photography or situations where fine contrast rendering is desired. The small form factor is nice and handling is good even though it's small compared to other lenses I use.

I also have and have compared, in detail, this lens to the Auto-Takumar 35mm f2.3, the S-M-C Takumar 35mm f3.5, SMC K 35mm f2, M series 35mm f2.8, and FA 35mm f2.For anyone curious and wanting to compare, see my video for a comprehensive review with examples.

Pros: Light, unique color
Cons: stiff focusing,

Image quality wise, it is better to stop down to f5.6. The image quality is not acceptable at f4, at least for me.

Looks very cool. Single coated. It is better to use with a hood. The lens design looks similar to the famed K35 f3.5.

My focusing ring is a bit stiff, even after Eric's cleaning. It is hard to focus other than under bright sunlight with Kx.

All in all, a fun lens to have. A landmark for Pentax for sure. Not the most practical lens for daily use.

Pros: Small; well built
Cons: f4

This is the original Takumar 35mm lens that came out about the same time the Pentax 'AP' was released. I have seen conflicting reports on whether it has 4 elements in 4 groups or 5 elements in 4 groups. AOHC says its the latter but I tend to think its 4/4. My copy weighs in at slightly under 133 g without the caps. I will post images of this lens and samples later. I like this lens as much as I do the Auto Tak 35mm f3.5 and that is saying something. This is a very nice looking lens and is unbelievably small even compared to the Auto Tak 35mm f3.5 which is smaller than its Super Tak successor. This lens performs very well on APS-c, especially when using the hood for the Auto-Tak 55mm f1.8 'Zebra' lens with which it shares the 46m filter threads like many of the early Takumar lenses.
