| | Just got a mint copy that has not been used much, so it is going to Eric for cleaning. It is the 37mm, a $7 adapter ring was enough to put it it. NO problems whatsoever. The lens is great at night or with low light. Price paid was a collector's choice, no need to publish it here. | | The lens is especially suitable for Portraits or single objects, which you want to emphasize from the surroundings . From f/2.5 the lens is sharp. The bokeh stays nice even with closed aperture. It has a pastel-like color reproduction and a nice bokeh. It's not a diva as the Biotar 1.5/75, you know in advance how the image will be. The character of the lens remains independent of the aperture or distance.

Pros: | great portrait and short tele on film | Cons: | m37 mount. | | This is a great portrait lens and o.k. short tele for even low light use. However, I have a devil of a time focusing the Asahiflex with the waist level finder in low light. I need to try out the Galileo finder and use the distance scale for focus. It is one of 2 lens that I know of that Asahi made that had a cemented 3-element group (the later m42 version did as well. It is basically a Sonnar design with 7 elements arranged into 4 groups. The other lens that had a 3-element cemented group was the 8-element version of the Super Tak 50/1.4 8. This made these lenses relatively expensive to manufacture. This review is based on strictly film via Asahiflex body.
