| | Canada Post just delivered this new silver HD DFA 100 mm f/2.8 AW MACRO lens I ordered from Camera Canada (serial number ending in ...00055). I tried it on my K3 III @ f/8 with a backlit close-up of a sculpture my brother gave me (a wolf howling at the moon under a Saguaro). Excellent results, no flare, no chromatic aberrations. The lens is surprisingly small and light but is very solidly made of metal like the LIMITED series. I took some "far-away" images along the Saint Lawrence River with the K3 III that turned out stellar. Putting this lens through its paces will be my new project for 2023. The last 3 pictures were taken with a Pentax K1. @ f/8 @ f/11 @ f/16 @ f/11 @ f/11 @ f/11 @ f/11 @ f/11 OPTIMUM APERTURE OPENING : f/11. | |

| | I was dreaming about a great Macro lens such as Voiglander 125 Macro Apo-Lanthar ; Pentax A* or FA* 200 Macro but these are too hard to find at a reasonable price.
This lens seems to be the one.
The first tests seem to give oustanding results : even in hard contrast conditions it is difficult to find purple fringing or chromatic aberrations, even with large apertures.
Here is a 100% crop without any correction ; take a look at the outline

| | I was looking for this kind of update of 100 Macro lens for quiet some time. The CA of previous WR version was annoying in some circumstances - especially on the surface of beetles or wet amphibians. New ED AW version has eliminated the CA to a minimum even wide open. I was not considering buying the lens, but limited Silver version forced me to pre-order one! The AF is still noisy since it's screw driven from the body. Design is still the same too - which is great. I love "Limited lens" look. Bokeh is still lovely. Not sure how the lens will do in terms of astrophotography - I'll see about that once the weather allows it (it might take a few months though!). Based on hendheld shots, I think the new version is a bit sharper too!
Crops from SOOC jpegs at f2.8 (one is from WR and the other from AW - guess which is which )
