This lense is supposed to be the high level all rounder lense for K1, and when it came out in 2017 it first looks perfect, even if the D FA 15-30mm and of course the D FA * 70-200 where probably even more convincing and still very recommandable lenses.
Remember that at this period $1000+ for a lense, even at F/2.8, was a lot, and these days it has become almost a minimum investment whatever the brand of your camera is.
So the time has passed, other brand have new lenses and camera every year, ofen more expensive than they were before but showing each time improvements, and Pentax has either presented new lenses that may feel superior to this one. That Big D FA* 50mm for exemple is superior in every points except of course that it didn't zoom.
This one still is the only modern F/2.8 standard zoom available for K1, and we are right to think that the vignetting is too strong in many situations, even if manageable by lense correction on the camera or on editing software. That border sharpness a any aperture is not impressive at all. That the distortion is visible especialy at the wide angle. That everyone in the camera market now proposes double stabilization camera + lense ... and stabilized lense would be great for a future (or past) K film camera.
This lens is an all rounder, and for that you can rely on it :
- It does the job, and better than any entry level lense,
- the bokeh is pleasing to me, flare is well managed but exists in some extreme situations. Sunstars aree... |
