Firstly the good things:
As you would expect the build quality is magnificent; tight tolerances and beautiful finishing. To top it off the look of the lens compliments the Pentax body in a way that doesn't happen with, for example, an 18-55mm kit.
Focussing, whilst slow due to the long throw, tends to be fairly accurate and using Quickshift really speeds things up. Images are sharp, free from any kind of aberrations and spot on colour wise. Being able to forget about minimum focus distance is also a great benefit of this lens.
So in all of the areas that matter I've nothing bad to say about this lens, and yet I ended up selling it...
For me, despite being a technically (even 'clinically') perfect lens, the results just didn't excite me. Bokeh isn't amazing when not close focussing, and the focal length didn't work for me...slightly too long but not long enough. It turns out that Macro is a serious business and to achieve good results requires more than just buying oneself a Macro capable lens (and this is just with static objects; the working distance is too close to consider tackling insects and the like). Adding all these factors together it seemed better to cash in my chips and move on.
In conclusion then, this is an astonishingly accomplished lens but it pays to:
