I have tried DA* 55/1.4 and wasn't too impressed. From IQ point of view, my copy of FA 50/1.4 is outstanding. My daughter uses it a lot and the results are lovely. It does not have modern conveniences such as WR of DA* lenses or quick shift auto focus. Yet, it has proper aperture ring. If you're looking for relatively cheap but fast AF optic, this might indeed be the way to go.
Word of caution: I bought a brand new FA 50/1.4 from B&H back in 2009. It was made/assembled in Vietnam. It turned to be soft at all apertures. I had to return it back to B&H. My copy was bought second hand and it is made in Japan. |
