I bought this in eBay at auction quote cheap and unexpected win with the low bid. I was surprised that the lens is better than I thought it would be, however I do prefer a 50mm plastic fantastic with a similar focal length.

I rated this lens low because I can not see the point when the 50mm 1.8 is just as sharp, probably a quarter of the weight and much cheaper. I honestly expected more from a DA* lens. I used this lens for many months and then sold it when I bought the plastic fantastic.

I decided to buy this lens because it was cheap on eBay and brand new in the box. I didn't expect it to be as good a value for money. Being lightweight is for me a big bonus. I am used to using "M" & "A" 50mm lenses and this performs slightly better in my opinion.

So I have owned the "SMC Pentax-DA L 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL" for quite some time as a kit lens (I actually own 3 of them) and I decided to buy the lens for its weather resistance and the fact that it gets a better rating on this forum. I guess because I have been so disappointed with the original kit lens I let the newer WR version just sit virtually unused since I bought it. Today I spent most of the day taking pics with the new lens and I have been pleasantly surprised with the difference in clarity and sharpness of pics. I will be using this lens more often now as it does the job much better.

Crystal clear pics. Bought new and instantly fell in love with the autofocus speed. Much better than any other 300mm lens I have ever used. I have yet to use a DA*300

I would love a WR version of this lens. Bought for astrophotography and landscapes, I find myself using it more for street photography than anything else so far (having only owned it for a few weeks). I intend on using this quite a lot for travel pics in the near future. Not as sharp as I would like but great for the value for money. Handles equally well on my K-70 & K-x. I gave this an 8.5 but rounded it up to 9.

My favorite zoom. I don't need primes when this lens is 95% as good. I love using this on APSC as the pics always have great clarity. My main walk-around lens. I can not find a difference in sharpness when comparing to my Tamron 90mm SP Di AF Macro which I consider to be extremely sharp. I highly recommend this lens.

I have the chrome version of the FA J 75_300. I bought a virtually unused copy still in its original wrappings and box. This is one of my most dust free lenses as a result. I too bought this lens for some more reach than the 50-200 and was hoping for some more clarity in my pics. I was surprised how fast the autofocus is. My copy sounds like it almost clicks into position when it finds focus. Focus jumps more at longer lengths like most zooms. Probably my loudest lens in that way. Everything feels smooth but cheap as it is plastic. My copy seems to give bad CA when in direct sunlight and flare can be quite pronounced. In saying that, I have also taken pics with the same lens with zero signs of CA. My copy doesn't include a hood (I may yet get that) and I am guessing that would make a difference. My copy shows softness on the left and right edges and especially at the long end. I like the speed of the AF which makes it better than the 50-200 for shooting wildlife. Overall - I find this is much better than my DA L 50-200 except the size of the lens let's it down. I think it was value for money in any case and worth it if you can find a cheap and decent copy.
