Ok, there is som purple fringing, and maybe the fa 50/1.4 is a bit sharper... but this lens feels so great when manual focusing! And pictures looks so nice!

I read some where that this lens is not good for digital -That is not true, at least it is clearly a better performer than the kit lens at 18mm. It also performs better on digital than my other superwide the 20/4 You will get hexagonal shapes in the picture if you have the sun near the field of view.

There are many good normal lenses, and this is one of them. bouqet is a bit harsh (but still smooth compared to most lenses) It need to be stopped down to f2.8 or f4, to get really sharp. but it is sharp enough for portrait wide open. the 50/1.4 is a tad bit better in both sharpness (until f 2.8) and bouqet. but of course the 50/1.4 is really a great lens.

at around 24mm this lens is at its best, and the quality of pics in this range rivals primes (if you don't pixel peep)! however at 55mm I find it that good, at 18mm it is acceptable! This is a fantastic lens if you have a lot of light available! not so good indoors...

I have tried many manual 24mm, searching for the best! tamron sp 24/2.5 was not very good. the tokina rmc 24/2.8 was quite good, and so was the pentax 24/3.5. the smc 24/2.8 was even better, but the best of the 24mm that I have owned is the sigma 24/2.8 super wide II. the pentax 24mm has good resolution and very good contrast even wide open. it is a lens i can recommend, but I use the sigma more often... Update: june-09. The sigma is a bit sharper, BUT the pictures just come out nicer with this lens, and the bokeh is great (most 24mm have harsh bokeh..). So I have upgraded this lens to the best 24mm I have ever owned (yes even better than the sigma). So now the sigma is on the shelf and the K24/2.8 on the camera!

I was a bit disapionted with this lens. I have tried several 24mm searching for a good one, this was ok, but smc 24/2.8 was better The only problem was the low contrast, giving a bit "flatter" picture than lenses I compared it with, the resolution was fine. All in all not what I expected from a pentax prime, so I sold it.

It has the x-factor!! 3d-like images, incredible sharpnes and beautiful colours, never disapoints me! This was my first pentax-lens, and the main reason I now have about 15 more pentax-lenses! It is extremely well built, a beauty! (a bit larger than the 28/2.8). It is very sharp even wide open, and it is easy to manual focus despite f3.5!
