I think the 5 rating really is not right, and drags the average down. This is a hidden gem in the M-line. Sharp in the centre from wide-open, razor sharp at f/4 in the centre. Great across the frame by f/5.6 on a crop-sensor. Also a great lens on film, but takes f/8 to sharpen up across the frame. Fantastic value, as mentioned before similar sharpness to the fast-fifties. Another lens that is much better on film than it is on digital. Very sharp in the centre from one stop down, but the corners never really catch up even on a crop sensor. See https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/lens-sample-photo-archive/162116-pentax-k-24-f-2-8-a.html#post2401122 for a full test.

Not a bad little lens - sharp in the centre, but never gets really sharp in the corners, even on a crop body. However, its great field of view and tiny size on a film body make it well worth keeping. Not worth getting just for digital though, Lens test here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/lens-sample-photo-archive/178504-super-multi-coated-pentax-m-20mm-f4.html#post2401118

This lens is the equivalent of riding a black unicorn down the side of an erupting volcano while drinking from a chalice filled with the laughter of small children. Because that, my friends, is frickin awesome. Joking aside, this is hands down the best zoom lens I've ever used. Once you get over the fact a 2.8 lens is never going to be compact and light, this lens has few faults. AF was accurate and perfectly fast enough for normal use, it's sharp even from wide-open and just gets better stopped down, and it's excellent value. Just as good as the FA135/2.8 I used to own. A fantastic lens, but I find it a bit long on APSC. Pros: Lightning fast focus (fasted Pentax AF I've ever used) on K10D Great SMC colours Incredibly sharp at f/3.5+ Close focusing Build quality (metal barrel) Compact and light (compared to DA50-135 for example) Cons: A touch soft at f/2.8 (understandable) Slight PF in high contrast situations wide-open Err... not that great looking? I'm talking myself into keeping it here! A great lens - the focusing is superb, photos show virtually no softness or distortion. PF not an issue in day to day use. Very close to a 9 actually.
