This lens surprised me it just doesn't get the same recognition as the 300mm f4, yet it out performs it with better sharpness and contrast. Its short minimum focus also surprised me, something rarely seen in lenses of this focal length. This lens is far better than the price I paid for it, great value for money and a real sleeper. I have used other fish-eyes before but this one is unique,it is so versatile being able to zoom from 10-17mm,so from huge distortion at 10mm to very little at 17mm. Most fish-eyes are soft right across the frame, but this one is unusual in that it's sharp in the centre and softens to the edges which seems to enhance and give a far better effect. Yes it has some CA but that comes with all fish-eyes and the way they bend the light, but with this lens it is not a big problem and is easily worked around. This lens also produces great colours like most Pentax lenses. The only problem I have found is that you have to be very careful with the protruding front element especially since this lens focuses amazingly close and the effect is so good that you cant help but use it.

This lens will not disappoint with its sharpness and colour rendition. The AF is a little slow from macro to infinity but it is only to be expected as its so close focusing that you have to be careful not to hit the end of the lens(the in-built hood protects the front element). This lens has character not only in its use but also in the images it produces.

I've had this lens for more than a year now and it still keeps surprising me with its versatility, brilliantly compact size and sheer image quality. As a portrait lens it renders skin tones better than any other lens I have ever used and its sharpness is so good that I have often grieved subjects with the way it can show the smallest detail even "concealed" blemishes and hairs growing where they never thought they were. Its brilliance doesn't stop there as the lack of aberrations, sharpness and colour handling make it ideal out-doors when a short telephoto is needed.
