Very good lens with excellent image quality in most aspects. Especially wide open, which is where I like to use it for the most. Took som photos of my oldest son with rather grey/white sky, and was disappointed to see that much of his hair was BLUE because of CA.

Bought a mint lens a year ago, I think it was hardly used at all. I like the image quality, especially full open with the small dof and the out of focus rendering. But, it is manual focusing, and full open I find it hard to achieve perfect focus when objects are moving a bit. So I had to buy the 77mm F1.8 to not miss the moments. I still like to use this lens now and then, because it's such a gem. It is good, but with the lack of autofocus I find it hard to give more than 8. (Non working link removed)

Beeing an owner of Sigmas 105mm macro lens for some years, I have been doubtful about buying a Pentax macro lens. This is due to image quality and build quality. With this new wr lens and metal housing the build quality is very good. Seeing very good reviews on image quality (especially sharpness), I finally took a chance of replacing my Sigma macro lens for this one. The image quality is at least as good as the Sigma 105mm, with a bokeh looking more pleasing because of the rounded aperture blades. AF on these two lenses is in my opinion equally good/bad. They both make some noise and hunt in the same manner. The quick shift on this lens is really handy, either if you prefer using AF or manual. To avoid hunting I can pre-focus without switching to MF and back to AF again. The only thing that my Sigma was better at is a built in hood. It makes it a bit larger, but that does not matter for me. This Pentax macro will at the shortest working ranges (when really close) have it front element rather close to the front of the lens hood, actually making it susceptible to flare when shooting in sunlight. I also think it is a bit fiddly to attach and remove the lens hood all the time, but I hope that is just a habit. Nonetheless it is not an important negative aspect. Here are some links to pictures from this lens to show the image quality: http://www.digit.no/wip4/m-hoene/uid.epl?pid=102491&s=new&uiid=131658 http://www.digit.no/wip4/duggfrisk/uid.epl?pid=102491&s=new&uiid=131698 http://www.digit.no/wip4/marihoene/uid.epl?pid=102491&s=new&uiid=131799 http://www.digit.no/wip4/sett-iro-for-f-n/uid.epl?pid=102491&s=new&uiid=132172 (Non working link deleted)

Bought this lens almost 6 months ago. Sold my DA 40mm Ltd f2.8, my FA 35mm f2 and even added some money extra to buy this instead, and have never regretted that. Even though those lenses were good, this lens has it all and always perform outstanding. Sharpness, bokeh, colour rendition, fast (and it is sharp full open also). Besides these qualities, it is well built and is like carrying a jewel. The lens hood is a bit awkward, but it has not caused any problems either. For me this is not a lens that I would often use filters on anyway.

Noticeably soft wide open. I use it wide open only in low light conditions. Cheap lens, so for the price it is nice to have it in those few moments a really fast lens is needed. In aspect of IQ I would rather purchase the 40mm Ltd.

A lens that is lightweight. It is not ony a gimmick, but really a difference carrying this around compared to other lenses. Very sharp from wide open. Can be used as a normal lens and portrait lens, although it is in the wide end for portraits.
