Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Customers like the quality of the camera tripod. For example, they mention it's rock solid, the material quality is fantastic, and it'll hold a heavy camera well. The upper leg locks are surprisingly solid and are apparently of better quality. That said, some complain that it'd break soon.

Customers like the portability of the camera tripod. They mention that it is sturdy and stable, yet it is light enough to carry around. Some say that it was not a bad weight to attach to their camera's backpack for a couple. They also say that the tripod is lighter than the more expensive tripod they have their eye on. They can easily carry it with the included bag, and the hook on the bottom lets them hang the empty carrying case. The case is well made and has a great slim profile.

Customers like the adjustability of the camera tripod. They say the angle of the legs is similarly easy to adjust, adjusting their shot was very easy, and the flip lock legs deploy and adjust quickly. The legs adjust to three different angles and retract smoothly. They also say the strap is adjustable and includes a shoulder strap. The leg extends and lock solidly at any position, so the tripod can be reliably leveled on uneven surfaces. Customers also mention that the removable ball head can be positioned all kinds of ways and has a pretty smooth pan. Overall, customers are satisfied with the adjust ability of the product.

Customers like the size of the camera tripod. For example, they mention it's small and lightweight, and can be shortened to about 18". The 62" version is big enough to get high enough for most shots, and still compacts down. Some appreciate the small mounting piece and the bubble level. Overall, most are happy with the size and functionality of the product.

"...This fit the bill perfectly. I previously had an amazon basics tripod, which was much lighter, flimsy, and felt very cheap...." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the maneuverability of the camera tripod. They mention that the mounting plate wobbles a little bit, the tripod loses stability when the legs are fully extended, and the camera slipping a bit. They also say that the legs flail around too freely and the tripod would sometimes shift when taking vertical shots. Customers also say tightening the legs inhibits the motion of the mechanism severely.

After receiving my Dolica Tripod in the mail, I was delighted that it was packaged very well and that was shipped to me insanely fast. Upon opening the box, I was immediately impressed by the included padded carrying case with adjustable shoulder strap with a very durable zipper. It was a great unexpected bonus for me since often I give the cheap carrying cases that come with mail order photo gear to my neighbors dog as a chew toy and buy something that will actually protect my valuable gear. The awesomely squeezable, soft foam leg grips, built-in compass (that actually works) and bubble level are also some very tasty features you might see on other, higher priced tripods and were things that I did not expect to see on a tripod at this price point. The solid, all-metal flip lock that holds the camera to the ball head works very well and is easy to manage, even for a spaz like me. I can pop my camera off the tripod for a quick handheld shot in a flash and pop it back on into its self-locking position in no time. I only wish that I could also attach my new hand strap over the lock mount on the bottom of my camera after I remove it. A bit of a bummer, really. However, the secondary safety lever that prevents accidental release of the mounting lock is one of the Dolica's great features that made me feel quite confident about mounting even my heaviest lens without fear of watching it fall off its seat and bounce down the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
I take my camera backpack on my mountain bike a lot and this tripod has a surprisingly substantial constitution for it's relatively light carrying weight and is easy to take with me wherever I want to go. What's more, it's sleek design doesn't have any sharp edges or pointy parts on it (if you remember to extend the rubber feet, see below) that will poke a hole in my camera bag or through a femoral artery. I have experienced no creeping or sagging whatsoever when I locked everything down well, and it holds my camera in tight position, even in a high wind or on uneven ground. There is even a hook at the bottom of the central post where you can hang something heavy (like a backpack) for extra stability. A thoughtful feature. The Dolica is surprisingly fast to set up with the retractable legs and ball head functioning smoothly and locking securely, making getting ready to shoot at any angle, fast and easy.
The three rubber feet are rugged, yet soft and small enough to fit into rocky crags and other tight situations and can be retracted to reveal some solid steel spikes that are great on gravel, sand or grass (be sure to retract these before you stow it away to prevent ripping the carrying case, your camera bag or scratching up your Grandma's nice wood floors). The metal feet are quite sharp and may also come in handy when fending off rabid wolves and hungry bears when shooting deep in the untamed wilderness. Also, it's unlocking leg hinges and movable center post give this tripod the ability to be configured into a surprising array of camera positions for low angle or vertical shooting, another big plus, especially in my small studio. What's more, I am 5'8" and this 62" tripod can be easily raised to my eye level when standing up straight (no more hunching over) while remaining quite stable, even when fully extended. At the same time, this tripod (unlike some of the other 62" tripods I considered) folds down to an incredibly compact size that actually fits inside my waterproof camera backpack without taking up too much valuable storage space. I can't tell you how important that was in my decision to purchase this piece of gear.
Overall, I can say to anyone considering this tripod over some of the others available, even some offered at a higher price, that the AX620B100 is fast becoming one of my favorite pieces of gear and I am looking forward to taking it along on many more outdoor adventures and for my indoor studio shoots, as well. Thank you, Dolica, for making a great piece of gear that actually does what it claims to do and more, for a price that most any photographer can afford.
I am amazed at the quality of this tripod for the price. Look, it isn't what a pro photographer would want, I am sure, and I don't speak as one, but to me it seems the most important things in a tripod are 1) stability 2) a sturdy ballhead that will allow just about any angle and 3) the quality of construction. Check, check and check. It is amazingly stable at full extension, even with the center-post all the way up (which puts the camera about six feet off the ground). Retractable spikes on the feet make it dig in to soft surfaces. The ball head seems very sturdy, and holds the camera at just about any angle consistently. I've seen some other tripods in this price range that are made mostly of lightweight plastic. Not the case here...this tripod is made of aluminum: strong and light.
Secondary considerations are 1) ease of use, 2) weight, 3) general portability. Check, check and check. The quick release on the legs work very well and seem to hold strong. They're made of plastic, so we'll see how they hold up over time, but they do seem well made. The quick releases make it very easy to adjust the tripod's height. Angle of the legs is similarly easy to adjust (though there is a satisfying strength to the way they're attached that requires some pressure to move).
Because it is mostly aluminum, this tripod feels pretty light for the strength. Another reviewer said it weighs 2.7 pounds. Sounds about right. Fully collapsed and packed into the included bag (nice bonus, by the way), it is about two feet long.
Downsides are few, so far. The quick release plate makes me a little nervous...but I'm not used to using one, so maybe its just my own paranoia. Speaking of that, would have been nice if more than one release plate was included to use with other cameras/video cameras. I don't do much (any) video, but an arm for smooth panning of the ball head is conspicuously missing, and that would be a consideration for people wanting to use it for video.
All in all, it seems like a fantastic product.
