Intelligent charger with discharge function including USB charging socket
Highlights of the ANSMANN Powerline 8
1. Charging the batteries:
Charging option for 1-8 Micro AAA / Mignon AA NiCd/NiMH batteries.
2. USB charging socket:
The USB port offers the possibility to also charge mobile devices with fixed batteries, such as smart phones.
3. Individual monitoring:
Each battery is individually monitored during charging, and individually charged to its maximum capacity.
4. Discharging the batteries:
For batteries that have become somewhat "weary" after long storage, a discharge function is available. By repeatedly discharging and charging, these batteries can be refreshed, and the capacity can be increased.
5. Automatic shut-off:
State of the art microprocessor-controlled charging technology with multiple overcharge protection guarantees optimally charged batteries and a gentle charging process.
Intelligent charge control
Once a battery is fully charged, the charging process is automatically stopped and switched to trickle charging (buffer charging with current impulses). This feature ensures optimum performance and counteracts the self-discharge of the battery. The battery can thus remain in the device until it is used. A clearly arranged LED display shows the current program mode for each charging slot separately. Should a non-rechargeable or defective battery be inserted accidentally, this will be indicated by a flashing red LED.
The Powerline 8 is designed for worldwide use.

For my home in the past, I always used the name brand rechargeables and their included charging devices. Problem there is you need to charge in pairs and that introduces problems. I have a mix of uses too, wall clocks, xbox controllers, children's toys, flashlights, etc. Eventually I was getting batteries that would be drained after only a short while.
So I bought this Ansmann battery charger. I've been using it for a over a year now and I absolutely love it. I'm getting 2x-3x the life out of a pair of charged batteries now. I use the discharge feature for all batteries I put in there too, so all batteries come out fully charged. Couple that with the fact that each battery gets charged to it's max individual capacity and you've got a much better experience with using rechargeable batteries.
One negative I found was the USB port on the side is only active when the charger is plugged into an electrical outlet. I had imagined that you could put a bunch of AA batteries in there then use it as a battery back, nope. It doesn't allow you to use the charger as a battery pack.
This works very well. We switched over to all AAA and AA rechargeable batteries. It's amazing how many
batteries you actually use in your home. After the initial investment it should pay off for itself within 12-18 months.
Best thing of all is no running out of batteries. I always have spares ready to replace.
The promotion video shows the unit with the standard North American plug.
The unit is worthless to me.
Returning the unit is not feasible as I took the unit from the US where I bought to Canada where I live.
I hope the mfg sends me a rating email so I can tell them what I think....
