HD Pentax-DA Fish-eye 10-17mm F3.5-4.5

Introduction

Fisheye lenses, which are a type of specialty lens, have been popular for quite a long time. While regular lenses are intended to create a flat representation of the world, fisheyes do the opposite, by projecting a curved image on the sensor.

Fisheye lenses have unique advantages. They can create images of extremely wide fields of view. Designers do not have to work as hard to correct distortion and can thus enhance other image elements. They can create dramatic views and enhance creative options.

Pentax introduced the first DA fisheye lens in 2006, the SMC DA 10-17mm F3.5-4.5. In 2019, the company released an updated version of this lens. The new version features HD coatings and a removable lens hood. Removing the hood and mounting the lens on a full frame camera (such as the K-1 or K-1 II) gives the user the ability to create nearly circular fisheye images.

The HD DA 10-17mm F3.5-F4.5 is a compact and light lens. While this new lens currently has no reviews from our readers, its former version is well-liked, with an average user rating of 8.93.

In this review, we put the lens through its paces and see what it can offer to photographers willing to try their hand with a fisheye!
