Irix 150mm F2.8 Macro Review

Introduction

Irix is relatively a newcomer in the photographic industry and has quickly made a name for itself by designing lenses with audacious specifications. We previously reviewed two of their products, the ultra wide angles 15mm F2.4 and 11mm F4, and we had good things to say about both.

Irix released another interesting product in 2018: the 150mm F2.8 macro. Most macro lenses are either close to the 50mm or the 100mm focal length, which makes this product immediately interesting. Irix did not stop at this unusual focal length, however. Merging the looks and features of their previous Blackstone and Firefly options, this time Irix offers a single version of the lens, called Dragonfly. The lens is weather sealed, offers the bump on the focus ring previously found on Firefly lenses, as well as a metal housing.

Claiming stellar characteristics for sharpness, aberrations, coma, and distortion, the Irix 150mm macro aspires to be an exceptional performer. Does it live up to the hype? Read on to find out!
