Irix 45mm F1.4

Introduction

Irix made a splash with their entry into the photography market, first with a pair of ultra wide-angle lenses (the 11mm F4 and 15mm F2.8), then with their 150mm F2.8 macro. All three lenses are well-regarded, witness their user ratings in our database.

More recently, the company released their 45mm F1.4 full frame lens. Foregoing extreme focal lengths, this no-compromise lens offers a normal field of view, close to the ubiquitous 50mm and even closer to Pentax's own 43mm Limited.

The Irix 45mm follows the current trend: it is rather bulky, sacrificing compactness for (in theory at least) better optical performances.

Offering a solid body, weather resistance, and the company's signature ergonomics, but lacking autofocus, the lens is an interesting addition to the Pentax lineup. Can it hold its own against Pentax's 50mm F1.4 and other comparable products on the market? Read on to find out!
