Noise Verdict

While both the Nikon and the GR produce excellent files up to ISO 1600, the Nikon has an edge in terms of overall luminance noise.  Even though its ISO 3200+ files suffer from more color noise, the Nikon retains noticeably more detail and we therefore consider it to be the better choice for photographers who like to shoot at high ISOs.

The GRD IV delivers clean files up to ISO 400, but thereafter it quickly starts losing detail and dynamic range.
