Ricoh Theta S Review

Editing Theta Images

Theta images can be viewed on a computer with the Ricoh Theta spherical image viewer as explained on the previous page. But what if the images are, say, underexposed?

The good news is that the JPEG files produced by the camera can be edited with Photoshop (or any other image editor) just like ordinary 2D photos. The brightness, dynamic range, color tone, etc. can be adjusted at will. The edited image can still be viewed properly in the spherical image viewer as long as it is isn't cropped or scaled.

Attached is an unedited out-of-camera file along with an edited version for you to experiment with.  Note that the composition of the photo might not make much "sense" outside of the Theta spherical viewer.

Editing is also supported while on the go.  Although the core Theta S app does not bundle image editing, two other apps called Theta+ (Android/iOS) and Theta+ Video (iOS only) are available for this purpose.  These can also be used for social sharing.

The mobile editing apps are beyond the scope of our review.
