Time Lapse Guide for Beginners

Are We Ready to Start?

Even if your camera has interval shooting you need to control the camera from a PC instead. The K-5 and K-r, for example, can only take 999 shots in interval shooting mode, and we need thousands of photos.

First, let's start with the PC. We need to install PK_tether and connect the camera to the power adapter.  The logical next step is to connect the camera to the computer and run the PK_tether program.

The program will recognize the camera model and most manual settings will be available for you to experiment with. Spend some time playing with the program in order to understand how it works. First make sure you go to

Menu\Photo Saving Settings

Check "Autosave"

and set the folder where you will be saving your photos

Then go to

Menu\Periodic shoot settings and enter the time interval you want (you may have to experiment a little before deciding what's best)

TOP TIP: disable autofocus as it will ruin the desired consistency between shots.

Press

"Periodic shooting Start"

Now we wait

The program may crash a couple of times while you shoot (its more or less beta software) but don't panic. If you fail to hear the shutter fire when it should, rerun the program and press the "Periodic shooting Start" . No one will notice if some shots are missing or are slightly delayed so don't worry.
