Topaz DeNoise 5 Review

Conclusion

Topaz DeNosie 5 does an excellent job of removing noise while preserving detail. It is by far the best program we have used for removing noise. Photographers primarily shooting JPG should consider adding this plug-in to their stable since its functionality cannot be matched even in an advanced image editor like Photoshop. Photographers shooting primarily RAW may want to compare the Topaz DeNosie plug-in with the noise removal available in Camera RAW. On many images ACR does a very good job reducing luminance noise although it doesn't provide as many adjustments as does Topaz DeNoise and is less effective on chrominance noise.

This Topaz plug-in performed excellently with Photoshop CS5 and was very fast even on our dated Pentium D 3 GHz computer running Windows XP. Noise reduction with this plug-in was significantly faster than the noise reduction built into Topaz Adjust 5 which we have reviewed earlier.

There is no history list in Topaz DeNoise and we did not miss it. Instead it is possible to save snap shots of the adjustments as you go and revert to any earlier snap shot. This is perfectly adequate for this plug-in unlike for Topaz Adjust, where we missed the history list due to the plethora of adjustments offered with Topaz Adjust.

Topaz DeNoise 5 comes with an excellent and instructive User's Guide that does a good job of explaining digital noise and and how to reduce it. The guide is a 63 page pdf file that is available from within the Help menu of the plug-in.

Concluding, Topaz Adjust is the best noise reduction software that we have come across and it is quite easy to learn not the least thanks to the excellent user's guide.
