DIY: A Pentax Underwater Case

The Case

In figure 9 you can see that it is not possible to close the case as the K200D is too tall (any other Pentax DSLR would be as well).  In order to get around this, I used a CNC mill to drill an extension ring for the case (figure 9a).  I went through the extra effort in order to avoid having to modify the camera, but if you really wanted to, you could remove the built-in flash, tape down the flash release lever, and remove the remaining protrusion that sticks out in front of the camera (i.e. the Pentax logo).  You would also have to flatten the grip and seal everything back up using silicone or epoxy.

Below, in figure 10, you can see the locking mechanism on a plate, which needs to be elongated in order to accommodate the extension ring.

Figure 11 illustrates the shutter mechanism.  As you can see, the case is a pretty good fit, and there are no problems triggering the shutter.
