with adapter on a 24 MP Fujifilm approx. 90 LP/mm = 180 black and white lines have convinced me totally (self measured)

with an achromatic diopter magnification up to approx. 2:1 available.

++ very good to excellent sharpness

++/+ nearly no CAs stopped down to f 8-11

+/++ sarecely flare

++ excellent color rendition

9.5 points for this excellent cheap lens

highly recommended by me as teacher of digital photography

Pros: sharp, true 1:1 with adapter, price
Cons: plasticy feel, rattling
Sharpness: 7    Aberrations: 7    Bokeh: 7    Handling: 4    Value: 10

It feels cheap because it is cheap, but the glass is great and the images show that. If you get chance to buy this discontinued lens for anywhere near $100, just do it. Make sure it includes the 1:1 adapter.

Pros: Earlier version of the "plastic fantastic"
Cons: Earlier version of the "plastic fantastic"
Sharpness: 8    Aberrations: 8    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 9    Value: 10

I believe that I have the Vivitar-branded Minolta MC/MD mount manual focus version of this lens in absolutely pristine condition. However, my copy looks more like the "Promaster 100mm 1:3.5," so I've moved my review there:

Pros: IQ - Price - "A" setting on ring
Cons:

This is a fantastic off brand, budget macro lens that allows true 1:1 magnification on a budget.
The rose is without the 1:1 adapter (screw on macro filter).
