Pros: extremely sharp with f 8-11 - a phantastic vintage lens
Cons: very, very few CA's in the corners
Sharpness: 10    Aberrations: 9    Bokeh: 10    Handling: 8    Value: 10    Camera Used: spotmatic, k-s1 k-5 k-x k200 fuji x-e1 x-t100

Item 1: Though my M42 screw mount item has the same problem with focus ring and a few dust, I've fitted my k-x to higher contrast (filter). This improves contrast and eleminates some flare.

Item 2: I've got an second 135 f 4 sonnar with clear lens elements and exa mount for portrait shootings of our kids. WOW ! What a sharpness stopped a few down to f 8

I use the M42 Version only for butterflies with an additional macro tube - an achromatic 2/1 lens element integrated into the tube = focal reducer 0.85x.. absolutely no CAs at f11 the result is an improved macro version 3.5/120 mm. No additional macro tele lens affordable. I'm very impressed. (+++)

++ excellent sharpness

++ 5/4 lens construction and fluorite glass will guarantee nearly no CA's

So I've changed the optical construction from 5/4 to 7/5 with astonishing results: absolutely no CA's and very high sharpness of details

90 LP/mm = 180 black and white lines per mm is a professional value (with 24MP Fuji sensor, not PENTAX)! My best single tele lens of 135 mm.

Because of my very sharp, very well corrected macro photos: 9.5 points totally

highly recommended

Pros: Tank-like build, long throw, sharp downed down ...
Cons: Slow @ f4, my copy needs more servicing - focus ring blocking

Bonjour,

Just a quick entry for this 135/4 aus Jena (Carl Zeiss). I picked it up cheap at the Poiters annual swap meet since it had rear element fungus (which I cleaned out easily) and it had a very stiff focus throw (more problematic).

Have shot a few test and really not too impressed for the moment. I need to further "overhaul" this lens ... Thus a base benchmark "7" overall mark/rating for the moment with sample images to come later once repairs are (hopefully) finalized.

Allez et salut, J
