Pros: outstanding i.Q., very well build, Bokeh dream
Cons: No AF
Sharpness: 8    Aberrations: 8    Bokeh: 10    Handling: 9    Value: 10    Camera Used: K1

This is my personal favourite lens. First, its not the sharpest lens i ever had (especially at the corners) but sharp enough for me. There are CA's visible. It has no AF too. But anyway, the i.Q of this lens is absolutely outstanding. I love the zeiss look in my photos. Can hardly describe it. The build quality is also great. Its a pleasure to work with this lens. Would never sell this gem for any money.
If you're lucky to see one for sale - get it. One of the best lenses for pentax i tried so far - tried a lot!

!!!Much better on full frame then on APS-C!!! It became my favourite lens with the arrival of my K1.

Pros: IQ, Fast wide angle, Solid, Sharp
Cons: Price

I needed a relatively wide and fast lens that I would operate MF and needed an accurate focus ring. The options were limited and I went for the CZ28mm f2. No regret.

I find the lens very sharp. It is build like a tank. The focus ring is very accurate and nice to use. This is my 2nd Carl Zeiss lens and both CZ lenses have a superb focus ring: a true pleasure to use.

I need to use more this lens and I will enlarge my review as I expand my applications with that lens,

Pros: metal & glass, sharpness
Cons: price

just piece of art - only metal & glass. Very sharp not only in center but in borders too. On borders quite much chromatic abberation. In comparision to FA* 31Ltd is much sharper on borders, especially till f5.6.

Bokeh is different than 31Ltd - not so creamy.

It is great close-up lens.

Pros: Construction, Focus Feel, IQ
Cons: Cost, Flimsy Pinch-Cap, Near-Field Curvature

The only photographic con to this lens is that it does exhibit a bit of field-curvature in the near-field. This is generally considered to be a negative for anything but a fish-eye, and rightly so, but it can be put to great creative effect. Not that the curvature is anything close to a fish-eye and again, it is only in the near-field. It will not be noticeable at all on any subject that is more than a few feet away.

With that caveat out of the way, all the rest of the wonderful Zeiss qualities are present and accounted for. Bitingly sharp and colors to die for. Very pleasing and uniquely Zeiss bokeh. Just an absolute joy to use. Nothing but metal and glass, other than the flimsy plastic pinch-cap. Even the hood is metal and makes a reassuring "click" when you lock it in.

This particular Zeiss is actually based on an old Pentax optical design (the K28, I believe, but don't hold me to that). While I'm sure some of the coatings and other details have been changed, you could find an old copy of that lens and get a lot of the flavor for a lot less coin. I've never used one of them, so I can't comment on differences in focus feel or other operational parameters.

If you have never tried using a Zeiss, you owe it to yourself to at least try one sometime in your life. But be forewarned, you will be ruined for other lenses. I have three Zeiss' and the only reason I have anything else is because of practical needs for AF or a FL that Zeiss doesn't offer.
