In hum full-frame Canon 6D Carl Zeiss Planar T * 85mm f / 1.4 showed exceptional Performance Center f / 2 all the way to f / 11 to f / 1.4 center and reasonably nitida , but NOT exceptional. At the same time , a lens struggled a bit around the Borders with Open wide openings , producing results mediocre instead of f / 1.4 paragraph f / 2. Quality Border improved with the opening paragraph and stopped Low PER f / 4 reached levels Exceptional .

Pros: fast, contrast and colours, 3d pop
Cons: soft wide open
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 8    Bokeh: 10    Handling: 10    Value: 9    Camera Used: pentax kx

Very easy to adjust the register on this lens; pull back the rubber focus ring to reveal about 8 clamping screws (philips 00) to loosen and reset infinity.

The sonnar 85/2.8 is razor sharp and aberration free from wide open, whereas the planar is rather soft and purple fringes against a strong backlight. Once stopped down to 2.8 its performance is equivalent to the sonnar, and gets better with smaller aperture. The extra 2 stops and swirly bokeh are nice for portrait and artistic effect.
