| | Anyone who buys this lens mainly because of zoom range / "versatility" is severely misled and will most likely be a bit disappointed.
The range from 28-35mm is, frankly, not that great, edge sharpness leaves something to be desired even stopped down, and CA are a problem.
From about 40mm, stopped down great sharpness. Only the ouuuuutermost corners are still a bit soft.
Finally, you get to 85mm, the strongest range, and turn the aperture to wide open. THERE the magic is! Based on THAT performance alone, the lens would get a definite 10 from me!The bokeh is simply STUNNING - so smooth and creamy! The bokeh is the No.1 special feature of this lens - a fact that is too little known (perhaps because people don't think of bokeh when they see a relatively slow lens - don't let that fool you). Couple that with the nice, medium-contrast rendering with natural and differentiated colors (Zeiss!), and you have an excellent lens for really atmospheric shots (filmmakers also like to use it). I like SO much to go out with it!
Yes, it's quite big and heavy, and it tends to have zoom creep. But on my Sony A7III, I can handle it just fine and don't hesitate to take it with me on hikes.

| | Good lens for daily use, with a high sharpness either at 28mm or 85mm.
Maybe the colors are a bit cold and not very saturated.
For an old zoom lens, this is a must buy in my opinion.

Camera Used: Pentax K1
| | At last, the Pentax K mounting from Leitax is put on the CZ 28-85mm/3.3-4 as I wished for very long time to have an CZ lens on my Pentax. It was also the reason, I'd waited not to acquire DSLR. I waited for Contax to sell out their DSLR. As every CZ, I like very much the saturation of color. This lens also gives the sharpness across the image. Incredible, if you can grab it one and put the K mounting on it, just take it. | |

| | One of the best zoom in this range (Photodo MTF score 4 better then Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8 L USM). Quite heavy with 16 elements and big front filter size- 82mm . Zoom is pump type but I found it to be quite usefull. Metal hood is shallow and you have to watch the light. For polarized and ND filter I use step-down ring (82-77).
Great landscape lens,
with good color rendition
and nice bokeh at close distance more samples | |
