Description:
Chinon badged a series of lenses ("tapered barrel" series) in the 1970's that have been associated optically with the early Tamron adaptalls - see review pages for eg adaptall CT135 135mm, CT200 200mm, adaptall 85-210mm f4.5 etc. Based on that it seems reasonable to suggest this lens has also been derived from the equivalent tamron the CW28. However it has also been suggested that Kino Optical (Kiron) made some of these (see this thread ), most specifically the 35mm (no tamron adaptall equivalent prime), so it is very possible that this was Kino also.

Pros: beautiful optic, good handling, MC
Cons:
Sharpness: 8    Aberrations: 7    Bokeh: 6    Handling: 9    Value: 9    Camera Used: Sigma SD Quattro H

I had the luck to buy in a bulk with a Chinon camera the 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm f1.7 macro, 135mm and 85-210mm zoom, all tapered barrel series, which I bought to collect as I find them very beautiful to look at.

On arrival I remarked the similarity with the Tamron Adaptall lenses from which I had several at hand. All of them, except the 35mm which I believe is a Adapt-a-matic and the 50mm, are identical with the Tamron original Adaptall series, which then was confirmed testing them against each other.

This means good mechanics, good handling and decent optical performance even on the Sigma SDQH.

One lens stands out, the 50mm f1.7 macro, Tamron never made a 50mm, after some research I found out this was a Chinon production originally for Alpa, a derivate from the Kern macro Switar.

Pros: Compact, modern design, sharpness, handling.
Cons: None so far
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 9    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 9    Value: 10    Camera Used: Pentax K-x DSLR

*** Mine is identical to the one pictured above, but the info given above is not correct for this model:
Filter size, 52mm
Aperture blades 5, slightly curved.
f-stops, 2.8-16
close focus - 25cms, 10"
focus throw, min to ∞, approx 160º

Great design - looks totally at home on my K-x body.
Tapered barrel feels really comfortable to use.
Focus is smooth, just the right amount of damping.
Aperture clicks nicely with half stops up to f11.
Bokeh is good for a 28mm.
Sharp! Beats the 18-55mm and the 18-135mm at equivalent settings.
Nice colour balance, slightly cooler than Pentax SMC.
Some flare if shooting towards the sun - use a hood.

Pros: Very good contrast, Quality Images Otima same in F/3.5, Very Sharp
Cons: no
Sharpness: 10    Aberrations: 9    Bokeh: 9    Handling: 10    Value: 7

a lens and sharp in open, rather than become better at f/3.5 to f/8, very good 28cm minimum focus, giving a nice bokeh in the background. optimal for those who like to take pictures hyperfocal.
recommend this model not recommend models that have Auto writings. this model is Tomioka, quality material used in it. well almost heavy 300gr. optimal grip
