| | I'm not really reviewing, just wanted to point out that this is *identical* to a Makinon lens. I have one with a PK mount but cannot recommend it.

| | I got this lens because my last name is Dietz and this is Deitz brand. I was curious if this is a brand to be taken seriously. I still don't know. I can say that this lens definitely is not an embarrassment to my good name.
My lens is in nearly perfect condition. It is a perfectly usable, somewhat modern, M42 zoom lens. Build quality is very good, it seems to be multicoated, and it even has an impressively complex set of movements that it smoothly goes through as one zooms and moves into what it calls "macro" focus.
I originally thought the IQ was just good, but after playing with it more, I think it is actually a bit better than just good and IQ ranks on the high side of average for zooms in its general class:
At macro, the bokeh are a tad rough, but it still looks very good even wide open:
The catch is that 1:4 isn't really macro. The f/3.8 to f/4.8 numbers also are a tad odd (honest?) and not particularly fast.
For $10 including shipping, it's quite a good deal. Mechanically, it's a 9, but optically more of an 8. Originally I was a little too harsh on this lens thinking it was more of a 7 in IQ, but after some more tests, lack of flare and general goodness really do warrant an 8. I shouldn't hold the fact that they misspelled my name against this lens.... | |
