Pros: | nice bokeh and tones | Cons: | i had to modify mine to fit pentax dslr bodies | | I have an EBC Fujinon 55/1.8 lens and it's really really nice - take a look at the photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dubesor/sets/72157622339358037/detail/
Mine was a screwmount lens with a little latch that was specific to Fujica bodies. I had to file down that little piece of metal before the lens would fit properly on my Pentax DSLRs cameras. It was worth it though.
This is my favorite 55/1.8 - which is saying a lot considering I've tried Super-Takumar, S-M-C Takumar, SMC Takumar, and Mamiya-Sekor 55/1.8 over the years on my Pentax cameras.

Pros: | Just as good as Takumars | Cons: | none | Sharpness: 9
Aberrations: 8
Bokeh: 8
Handling: 10
Value: 10
Camera Used: Canon 70D
| | This lens is just as good as the Asahi Pentax Super-Takumar 55mm F1.8 in terms of sharpness and color saturation. The only difference I see between the two is that the Fujinon has slightly more "bubbly" specular highlights, but nothing crazy like the Fujinon 55mm F2.2.
It is also mostly metal construction, unlike the brittle plastic of the 55mm F2.2.
My copy does not have EBC multicoating, and I dont miss it at all.

| | What's this about a 55mm filter size? It is 49mm.
This was the lens that came with my first 35mm camera, an ST801, bought new in 1974. I had only the one lens for about 3 years, and wrung it out. I used with a teleconverter, on extension tubes for macro, reversed for macro, etc., and loved it.
It is well made, with a nice feel. A sweet lens.

Pros: | Bokeh is smooth, focus ring feels nice, cheap. | Cons: | OOF highlights have bright edges and can sometimes be distracting, softer than Takumar 55mm f/1.8 till about f/11. Odd 55mm filter ring, and quite big for being only f/1.8. | | It's not top quality, but you won't find this for sale at anything near top dollar. Great beater/value lens, and it's pretty solid as a portrait lens. I like using this for stopped down product shots, but colors seem to be a bit subdued compared to a Super Takumar 55mm f/1.8, and it's definitely a stop or two behind in sharpness and "glow." The focus ring is not nearly as nice feeling as a Takumar, but it still is a lot nicer focusing than any AF lens I've tried.
Nice way to start using M42 lenses, but you might end up leaving it at home if you try a Tak.
