My lens looks like brand new however it has some haze on the glass inside the lens. Professional repairman opinion was that the haze comes from poor craftsmanship. I paid £35 with shipping.
I can get pretty sharp shots with tripod also wide open aperture. Boring color may be due to haze on the glass. If cleaned it may be rather great lens.
