| | Bought from Fleabay for a very reasonable £23. Mine is a PK mount not M42.
Externally the lens is physically large for a 28mm but has a smooth focus ring and general quality feel.
Chrome, markings and mount are all in excellent condition although some fading on the distance scale shows this lens has been used, so good for its age.
A few test shots show vibrant colour rendition and general quality. It reminds me very much of late 20th century Fuji colour negative rendition.
Sharpness is excellent at centre when stopped down to 5.6 or 8, corners good, extreme edges less so.
No obvious CA or geometry issues but bokeh not tested due to conditions - it's a flat overcast day.
Some dust inside but no effect on the pictures.
Overall a bargain - but you could probably get a Pentax 'A' for the same money. Recommended for APSC users if you don't mind manual lenses and always use short focal lengths stopped down for landscape etc.
Untested on full frame.

| | Bonjour,
Acquired this "Made in Japan" Helios 28mm f2.8 in a Zenit kit purchase via French evilBay.
Nice build and seems only average so far, but need to get outside and test further.
Thus, a "7" straight across the board rating for the moment ... test images to come later. Allez & salut, John le Frog Edit ... some images with a bit of LR4 PP ... Still just a "7" overall; nothing special, just average | |
