Description:
Hoya branded lenses from this era are typically rebranded, slightly remodelled (usually with a distinctive silver aperture ring - as per pic) tokinas. This lens, from what can be referred to as tokinas late 1970's "heavy metal" series (includes 100-300mm, 70-210mm, 75-260mm f4.5, can be compared to its tokina, vivitar and soligor cousins see here:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/tokina-rmc-vivitar-hoya-soligor-etc...105mm-f35.html

There was more than one version of this lens and it looks like there are hoya versions of each variant too - see pic 2, 3.

Pros: Sharpness, Color Rendering, Bokeh & Build Quality
Cons: Weight/Size
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 8    Bokeh: 9    Handling: 10    Value: 10    Camera Used: K1, K3, K5iis, KS2

I bought this lens without doing much research into it beyond reading the reviews very quickly on this website. I am very happy I did - this lens is a keeper, for sure.

It's a true constant aperture 3.5 making it great for modern camera usage, it's sharp, it's color rendition is nice and warm - there isn't much not to like about this lens.

The macro mode on this lens is noteworthy because of its ease-of-use and general convenience.
You rotate a focal control dial to 35mm, pull the dial back to engage macro mode. In macro mode the focal control goes from controlling the focal length to being your macro ring control - very convenient and fast to use.

I could not be happier, best 35 bucks I spent on a lens in years, will post some photos soon!.

+ a really good performer, stopped down to f8-11: good sharpness,

but with macro ring visible CA's, it is not a macro lens

Pros: Solid build. Excellent Macro lens!
Cons: Heavy!

I got this lens as an added bonus when I purchased a kit for a SMC Pentax-M 50mm 1.7 a few years ago, so the $20 price is just a guesstimate of what I actually paid for it. If it was even that much, it was well worth the price!

This lens is a tank. It's heavy, but the quality of the images it produces makes it worth lugging around from time to time. The zoom range of this piece of glass is extremely usable, making it a pretty good lens for portraits, landscapes, and of course macro! Contrast and colors are great!

The macro function of the lens has been its main function for me in a lot of the shots I've taken for a monthly "Single In" challenge here on the forums, but I've also had some pretty decent zoom shots as well. Here are a few samples to give you an idea of what this lens is capable of:
