| | excellent lens, beautiful out of focus backgrounds and brilliant colors. Does distort a bit and vignettes wide open but nothing that you can't fix on the computer nowadays!! Love this on my Minolta!!

| | My review is for JCPenney Multi-Coated Optics 28mm; f2.8; 55mm Filter, Made in Japan
My first impressions are disappointing, right off the bat I found I needed to increase exposure by 1.0 ~ 1.7 EV as I found my images a tad bit dark for my taste. Color rendition is awful and inaccurate. I'm still reviewing images and will post some examples. Maybe lens isn't the issue, possibly user.

| | Purchased in 1996 for $10.00 at a pawnshop. Smooth lens.Get's the job done. In the past used it on my Ricoh KR-10 Super for mainly landscapes and wider scenes. These days it was brought back to life thanks to the Pentax K-01. I use the lens for portraits ,concerts and I even filmed a music video with it.
All images shown are shot with the JCPenney 28mm f2.8 with a Pentax K-01 body. | | | | | Veteran Member Registered: March, 2011 Location: Eastern Kentucky Posts: 416 | | Review Date: August 4, 2011 | Recommended | Price: $25.00

| Pros: | Good lens for low light | | Cons: | M type, not A | | My lens is not the same as the one at the top of the review as it is made in Japan and has a 55mm filter size.Have used this lens quite a bit to shoot Bluegrass concerts at night when close enough for a 28mm to work.Might be a little soft at wide open but is acceptable.

| I have a M42 variant of this lens. I'm not sure if there is another version but mine was Made in Japan. I find the lens soft wide open not really a good performer if you are looking for the F2.8 to be used in low light conditions. Which was one of my original intentions. For more sharper pictures you need to stop it down to atleast F4 or more. At which time you would be better off using the kit lens for DSLR 18-55.
It has a solid feel to it as it is entirely metal and heavy.
I am really not impressed with the lens so far. Perhaps it is just my own mistake. However, if I find it works better later on I will change my opinion but for now I would not recommend it.

| Pros: | Inexpensive, nice build, good contrast stopped down, fast | | Cons: | Very soft wide open | | Mine says made in Korea, not Japan. I bought this without knowing anything about the lens, but I'm happy with it. It's fast enough for indoor photography, though it's dreamily soft wide open. Stopped down to f/4, it starts getting sharp. Plenty sharp at f/8 or f/11. It's a bit difficult to focus for me - the focus ring has a lot of throw. I've heard this lens referred to as a door stop, but I would say if you're looking for an inexpensive 28mm prime, go for it.
Here are some photos taken with it on my K-x. | | |
