Well, I am not an expert but I want to write my own experience. I bought this lens as a cheap alternative to the kit lens to use with my backup camera (Ist DS).The lens is well bulilt, solid metal feeling and naturally more heavy than the kit lens. It has a "macro" feature after 70mm, but the kit lens focus more closer thus make more "macro". Overall, the results are acceptable but it is not sharper than the kit lens and it is more heavy. Although I can recommend this lens at this price, I think there is no reason to prefer it instead of the kit lens.
The EXIF data reads that it is an smc Pentax-FA 28-80mm. I think this is the case for many third party AF lenses.
The second Viking image was taken with the kit lens for comparison with same parameters (1/90, f:4.5, ISO:400) at minimum focusing distance (Tokina:70mm, DAL 18-55mm: 43 mm)
Edit: May be I underestimated this lens as I bougt a Promaster 28-80mm AF rated "7.3" in PF and Tokina is clearly better and sharper than Promaster. So I have changed the ratings of Tokina and added further samples.
