I picked this one up in a Aussie second hand store for AU$35, and I don't regret a cent of it. I was primarily looking for the macro functionality and I tend to use the lens with an extension tube. Without the extension tubes the autofocus on this lens is sharp and quick for the full range, with the tubes the manual focus is natural and the images in both cases are sharp and clear.
The only downside I can find is the normal / macro switch. To transition from one mode to the other the lens has to be focused close to infinity, it took me a while to work that out but it now comes naturally.
Another bonus for me is the aperture ring. As I tend to use the manual tubes I need to be able to adjust the aperture easily and this is easy to use. It has the usual "auto" aperture setting but there is a definite change over from manual to auto so it can not be accidentally transitioned.
All in all a fantastic lens, it does everything I could want and a bargain price. |
