Meyer-Optik Gorlitz Trioplan 100mm F2.8
supersize

Description:
Reputedly a design based on, or a copy of, the Cooke Triplet, the Trioplan has gone from being well-known in its day, to being forgotten about and recently, become a bit of a cult lens.
The bokeh is a love-it or hate-it thing with this lens. It's not always there and depending on light conditions it might render a smooth background instead.

Note the Mayer Optik Orestor 100mm with the classic fluted looks has it's own review here.

Pros: Bokeh, well build
Cons: sharpness
Sharpness: 5    Aberrations: 6    Bokeh: 9    Handling: 8    Value: 8

First, one can find sharper lenses for the price. 125mm Zeiss Sonnar (appr. 100$) for example works much more accurate. Sharpness and contrast are quite low. But there is only the Meyer Görlitz with the special dreamy look and this exceptionell bokeh. If youre looking for this very special gem - you have to pay the price. At least its a expansive toy.

Pros: Bokeh, Supreme build quality, Makes every photo a "painting"
Cons: No good for landscapes or for distant subjects
Sharpness: 5    Aberrations: 3    Bokeh: 10    Handling: 10    Value: 3    Camera Used: K3ii

They don't make lenses like this anymore. The tactual and ergonomic experience of holding and using this lens is like none other!

From an optics standpoint one only buys this lens for one thing - BOKEH! It is brilliant for macros (with screw on macro lens or extension tube), close ups, and portraits.

This lens is very poor for use with landscapes or for anything at midrange or in the distance.

One trick pony pretty well sums up my opinion of this lens. This lens makes every photo a "painting"!

I have bought and sold hundreds and hundreds of lenses in the last 30 years. This is the only lens that I will never part with!

Pros: bokeh
Cons: fully manual
Sharpness: 8    Aberrations: 7    Bokeh: 10    Handling: 7    Value: 9    Camera Used: Pentax

It is quite sharp lens with magic bokeh. If somebody wants to experiment with old lens wide open it is good choice. Very sensitive to strong light.

Pros: guild, bokeh, IQ
Cons: heavy
Sharpness: 10    Aberrations: 10    Bokeh: 10    Handling: 9    Value: 10

a lovely lens that make people look at you (and easier to capture their emotion)
the IQ is superb even wide open ! it's build to last so you dont have to worry about that
it's heavy (like a tank), full metal and not that easy to find now on sale

Pros: Light, sharp, was cheap.
Cons: None really - it's what it is.
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 9    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 8    Value: 8

It's a pre-set aperture, but when you get into it, it's no big deal.
If your'e a fan of wild, swirly bokeh, you can provoke this lens to produce it in spades.
I'm not really bothered either way; it impressed me with its sharpness at first and for a middle of the road 50s design it does quite well more than half a century later.
