MIR 10A / 10M 28mm F3.5

Description:
Manufactured at the KMZ plant from 1970 (production end date not known), the MIR-10A 3.5/28 is a wide-angle pre-set prime lens with single coating and adaptable mount for M39 or M42 (usually found with one or the other installed), designed for the 35mm film format. The desired aperture is chosen via the pre-set ring, then opened and closed using a second aperture ring. There is no A/M switch, so modification is necessary for adapted use. The aperture is round at f/3.5 but forms a six-pointed "circular saw" hexagon shape as the lens is stopped down, producing distinctive out-of-focus highlights.

The MIR-10M variant in M42 mount has a stop-down mechanism with aperture pin control, but no A/M switch - hence, modification is required to use this lens with adapted mounts.

Focal length: 28mm
Max aperture: f/3.5
Min aperture: f/22
Min focus distance: 0.2m
Aperture blades: 6 ("circular saw" hexagon formation)
Optical design: 8 elements in 7 groups
Filter thread: 67mm
Weight: 520g / 18.3oz
Length: 81mm / 3.2"
Mount Type: M42 Screwmount

Pros: Quite sharp, relatively compact, replaceable shank.
Cons: Incredibly prone to flare, play in different pieces, focus ring position is not very convenient, "only" f/3.5
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 7    Bokeh: 7    Handling: 7    Value: 9    Camera Used: K30

This lens is quite of a special one :

It's quite small but...
Prone to flare (bloody hell it is !)
It's solid and full metal but...
Has play in lots of pieces (though it may be my copy, I think it has been disassembled and poorly reassembled.)
It's sharp (40/30) but...
Opens at f/3.5 and has quite a poor chromatical aberration control.

And it's quite expensive.

It has a replaceable shank ("A" mount, that's why it's called Mir 10"A") but as far as I know, the only adapter which fits it is the one from kood. There's adapters from the factory "Arsenal" in Kiev, Ukraine, but they're very very rare for pentax K And quite expensive (only seen one in my life)

Note : because of where the focus ring is placed, if it is even a little bit stiff, this lens will be a pain in the ass to focus.

I hope this'll help, and I apologize for my poor English as it is not my native language.

(The lens is the one at the left, as you can see it's quite scratched)

Pros: pretty sharp, very russian character
Cons: the diaphragm?
Sharpness: 7    Aberrations: 7    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 7    Value: 9

This is a pretty decent 28mm lens in the world of M42 glass.

If you familiar with Russian M42 glass then this will be in line with expectations. Heavy, solid, preset aperture, streaky & swirly bokeh, pretty soft in the edges, and prone to misbehave in backlight (in a way that is usually pretty nice if you like the creative effect of it). The most unusual feature is the shape of the diaphragm, when stopped down it creates quite crazy ninja star specular highlights - which I don't particularly like actually.

My copy render colours quite coolly, is decently sharp right from ƒ3.5 in the centre, and is generally a pretty solid performer.
