This lens surprised me. I bought it because it was very cheap, without great expectations. The lens is very sharp from wide open at least at infinity, much sharper than other bigger name lenses. The contrast is just OK, but my copy is a little hazy inside, so perhaps it is due to this. For closer focus is a little soft until f8 or so. The zoom and focus ring is very well dumped, and has no creep. Summing up a great value for the price.

My score of 9 considers various competitor lenses of this era. The lens is very sharp--throughout its range with good contrast. The zoom creep on my copy is a negative, but zoom throw is not so much as to be a deal breaker. The lens is attractive and very well built. It has a nicely designed hood--focus ring too is nice, well dampened & knurled.
The "Macro" ability does allow some close focus work--nice. Overall the lens is a delight in my hiking bag, providing amazingly honest colors and great IQ from 70-210mm. Attached, 2nd shot @ 210mm.
