Lens Review Date: September 21, 2013 I can recommend this lens: No | Price: $65.00 | Rating: 5

Pros: cheap
Cons: blue cast, soft images, macro only at 300mm
Sharpness: 3    Aberrations: 5    Bokeh: 5    Handling: 5    Value: 5

I use 70-300mm zooms so often that I actually had 2 of the sigma APO DG versions. Bumps cost both lenses the automatic function, and while they were at Sigma for repair I purchased a used, but perfect appearing, Quantary version with the green lettering. I had a feeling that the IQ was not up to the Sigma standards, and after the Sigma's were returned I was able to compare IQ. At 200mm, on a tripod, focusing on an object 50ft away, both Sigma's were very much sharper than the Quantaray, and the Quantaray had a strong blue/cyan cast that the Sigma's did not. These defects may be a factor in just my lens, but then, maybe not. I can't recommend this lens unless it is very cheap and returnable if not up to par for this type of lens.

Update: This lens has been in the "free take me" box at the local camera club since I posted the original review. It is still there (although there are very few Pentax shooters in the club) Obviously, I cannot give this lens away.

Lens Review Date: April 15, 2012 I can recommend this lens: Yes | Price: $29.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: value, range, construction
Cons: weight
Sharpness: 9    Aberrations: 8    Bokeh: 8    Handling: 9    Value: 10

I have the lens pictured (Quantaray Tech-10 PF AF) and it is in all important ways identical to the Sigma 70-300 DL Macro. The only real difference is the label and the rubber of the zoom and focus rings. Since that's rated an 8.5, I think that this lens is much more than a 7. The Quantaray was a much better value for me.

Lens Review Date: January 8, 2011 I can recommend this lens: Yes | Price: $50.00 | Rating: 7

Pros: cheap, macro, zoom range
Cons: macro switch, not very sharp, pf

Cheap lens with macro @ 300mm
macro switch can only be engaged at 300mm, and allows for close focusing.
disabling macro (and changing zoom) requires focusing farther (back to non-macro ranges)

The lens is slow in low light, requiring use of flash alot.
purple fringing is apparent in many shots.
Zoom is tight and smooth between 70-135, but from 135-300 it changes stiffness at various points

the quantaray caps aren't very good
front cap has low contact/pinch area and wobbles
rear cap one part of the screw ring broke during shipping
the quantaray barrel has some wobble room on the different barrel segments, most noticeable on the autofocus adjustment segment.
