Very rare lens. I found mine at local market - almost like a new. The long end 135mm need to be stopped down from f4.5 to f5 or f5.6 to be fully useful with sharpness. The 24mm it very nice at f2.8 and with every step getting sharper and sharper. The AF can hunt but's normal. Anyway im happy with it but i wouldn't trust it to much - in stress situation it's better to use MF i guess ;) Photo at 24mm f2.8 https://www.pentaxforums.com/gallery/images/106259/large/1_FARB4324.jpg Photo at 135mm f4.5 https://www.pentaxforums.com/gallery/images/106259/large/1_FARB4337.jpg Photo at 80mm f4 ( wide open ) https://www.pentaxforums.com/gallery/images/106259/large/1_FARB4367.jpg

I have the pleasure to be the first to review this rare lense. Well there's not much to find in the internet about this lense. So when I found it on e-bay, I decided to buy it. I made few test and I think I can write a little review for you guys. At first feel free to visit my FB page to find more Pentax photos ( also made with this lense ) https://www.facebook.com/M.Farbiszewski/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sharpness. As most of the real Macro lenses, this one is razor sharp from wide open... sometimes even too sharp for portraits but that's not a problem. I compared it to a two lenses: Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 (set at 70mm ) and a Samyang 85 f/1.4. Both of those lenses are known to be very sharp. So here's comparisons ( cropped images - for pixel peepers :) ) Here's the basic photo ( Tamron 90mm f/2.5 / f/5.6, 30% of full size of image ) : http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/c4/91/2b/2b3c15761944363.jpg Wasn't post-process at all ( same as the samples below ) As you can see Tamron 70-200 is just a little bit sharper at f2.8 but from f4 to a f5.6 Tamron 90 beat the Tamron 70-200 in sharpness: http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/40/f0/81/acc60b761606253.jpg http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/65/ac/d2/6f54f7761612623.jpg Also there's bit more CA visible in Tamron 70-200 What about Samyang 85 f/1.4 vs Tamron 90 f/2.5? Samyang is a bit sharper at f/2.5 and much more sharper at f/2.8 but also Samyang suffer with visible CA http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/71/80/76/4eab6a761606263.jpg http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/23/9d/80/a67e75761614953.jpg From f/5.6 Tamron 90 is a bit softer or at least sharp the same as Samyang 85. http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/ab/a3/1d/80f84c761944383.jpg Autofocus Biggest positive is that...it works. Nice there is AF limit to make it work a bit faster. It's pretty noisy and has a tendency to hunt a bit and somethimes it's not very accurate... Anyway it still works. I would rate it 7/10 Abberations: Some visible - nothing to worry about. I may say it's almost CA free. Bokeh Well I never know how to rate it. Well bokeh is nice but i much more prefer creamy bokeh from Pentax-A 50mm f1.7. All shots taken at f/2.5 http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/cc/21/93/d6e6df761606233.jpg http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/4c/ec/b9/e99c92761606283.jpg http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/1b/37/f7/431d10761606093.jpg Handling Well it's mid size lense. I may say it's rather small than big. Feels just fine. Anyway the sun hood feels weak - but it works as it should and it's convertible so I won't change it to any other ( screwed on filter ). Macro The macro is 1:2 so i would say it's much more like VERY close focusing. It's useful if you bought the lense for general purpose ( portraits etc. ). If you need something "more macro" try Tamron 90 f2.8 or Tamron Adaptall f2.5 ( manual ) or Sigma 70 f2.8. http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/7f/1e/98/b195fa761606113.jpg I think it's great lens. The biggest positives are that's pretty fast ( f2.5 ), sharp and has AF... who needs anything else? :) Some samples: http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/ba/fc/b8/13bcb5761606153.jpg http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/cb/3f/78/06775b761606193.jpg http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/b7/eb/93/d06890761606293.jpg http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/27/56/93/0ee495761944343.jpg https://www.facebook.com/M.Farbiszewski/

I wanted something bright ( and cheap ;) ) lense that would find my needs from wide angle to short tele. I always carry a Sigma 17-50 2.8 ( sometimes it's too short for some photos ) and Tamron 70-200 f2.8 ( that's way to long for some photos). So here come the Tamron 35-105 f2.8 . One thing I really worried about before the bought is does this lense would be useful sharp from f2.8. And the answer is - YES! The lens is preety sharpd from f2.8 and with stops it's only getting better. Anyway at f2.8 and focus ring set at infinity... it's almost impossible to find anything is really in focus;) It's very usefull portraits range ( on aps-c it's like 50-135mm ). There is some abberations visible but it's nothing that you should worry about. Prices are very, very various, so if you don't want to overpay - just take a time to find a best offer ( mine cost less than 70 USD but usually the prices are at least 150 USD or even more if the lense is in mint condition ). the pros are: zoom range, bright and sharp from wide open the cons are: big&haeavy, preety hard to focus, zoom extends under the self weight, zoom ring could work smoother - it's somethimes hard to stop zooming anywhere between the long or short end All files are non touched by any tool ( it's 50% of size of RAW file ). Here's 35mm at: f/2.8 http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/46/8d/52/632312670139423.jpg f/4 http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/ca/0c/51/d517ad670139463.jpg f/5.6 http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/64/84/57/6535f3670139503.jpg f/8 http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/8f/7e/9c/6eca17670139533.jpg f/11 http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/8d/4a/57/85678b670139563.jpg duck taken at 105 mm f/2.8 http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/cb/2c/00/940f15670139593.jpg Edited duck ( lightroom ) - for sharper, more colorful, more contrast image. 105mm f2.8 http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/5c/4e/73/935eef670202553.jpg

I bought it because it was very cheap, fast ( f2.8) and cover most of portrait needs ( 50-105mm on APS-C cameras ). I thought: "Prolably this f2.8 will be soft as hell and unuseable"... well i've been wrong. It's totally useable at wide open! It's compact, preety light...could be a little bit more contrasty but - to be honest - for such price it's really nice deal! Especially it's "A" lense so you can use it Av mode. The only issue that i met is it don't work good against light - you'll need some sun hood for sure.

I had few 50mm lenses in my hands : Pentax-M 50mm f1.7, Helios 55mm f2, Pentax-DA 50 1.8 and rare Pentax-FA 50 f1.7. When i found an cheap offer with sigma 50 1.4 with i thought: "well I have fa 50 1.7 so i don't need to buy another 50". Anyway after some time i decide to buy it cheaply, after all that I could sell it later with a profit So i Did... funny thing is i sold a FA 50 1.7 but not the Sigma. Sigma found to be VERY useful - bright and sharp. At 1.4 it's just good but fom f2-f5 it's razor sharp! And f2 is still BRIGHT AS HELL. It's also very colorful, contrasty so it not always necessary to edit shoots in LR. Only Thing i found to be well a con - it's preety big. Anyway IMHO it's worth it ;) here's aparature comparision: https://ibb.co/album/deiLaa?sort=date_asc&page=1 aparature is At the bottom of the page ( image name )

Well it's very useful universal focal lenght lense. From portraits to wide angle and macro. It's razor sharp from f6 and further. It's good at f5.6 and little soft at f3.5-5. Nice colors and build - just another tamron cool lense :) Here are samples. Sorry they're made throught dirty window :/ f/3.5 http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53596/1f851e535956903.jpg f/4 http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53596/d3341b535956912.jpg f/5.6 http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53596/02bc5b535956894.jpg f/6 http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53596/d8ee26535956923.jpg f/8 http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53596/b9cf37535956935.jpg After f/8 sharpness look's the same imho.

Brightest lense in this price range with such long focal. It's typical portrait lense. I keep it for low light conditions. It's sharp from the wide open then get even sharper ( and less CA ) at f4 or f/5.6 and stay like this - doesen't change much further. Bokeh is beautiful i really like it. It's well build - it's compact and light. Have his own visor - i don't quite like it ( because it will fold if you put it on something ), but still t's useful when you taking shoots. The only issues I noticed it's aberrations ...well don't expect to much for such price. f/2.5 http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53447/992d9a534461406.jpghttp://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53447/3da630534462597.jpg f/4 f/5 http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53447/796a3b534461414.jpghttp://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53447/74f518534461422.jpg f/5.6 f/8 http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53447/81e895534461445.jpghttp://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53447/38c2f6534461456.jpg f/11 f/16 http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53447/cf62ed534461469.jpghttp://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53447/368b60534461482.jpg

It's big and heavy lense. The f/3.5 sound nice on the paper but in real use at full tele, it's way too soft for quality photography. Other issue is chromatic aberration- it was way to high on some shots. It's just avarage lense. I didn't like it. I wanted a bright telephoto for difficulty light conditions. I get an telephoto lens that picture is well from f5.6 and this is not so bright...and this whole ugly chromatic aberration :hmm: I sold Vivitar and bought Takumar 200mm f/3.5 - and that was very good shoot! Takumar ( m42 ) is so much better. http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53395/1834a5533941395.jpg http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53395/55d814533941411.jpg http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53395/49078f533941421.jpg

Mirror lenses are specific. Some love them some hate them ( mainly because donut bokeh ). I bought mine very cheap because there was some fungus inside. First time i took it for shoots i loved it! Focal lenght is everything i need for bird hunting. It's damn sharp and compact size - in compare to "normal", non mirror 500mm lenses. It's also smaller and lighter than some other mirror lenses like mto 500/f8 or rubinar etc. The one aparature setting is a pro to me - lense is perfectly set for the one and only f/8 ( so there is no chromatic aberration). The only cons are fact it's a dark lense and sometimes bokeh can kill your photo if there is too many donuts ;). Any other cons are same for all other manual lenses. For me it might be best option if you can't spend to much money for sigma 150-500 or 50-500. I really wish that some day i could compare Tamron 55b and 55bb for the image quality. Few shots - some are desized ( because of server mb limit ) http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53392/3c7eab533918173.jpg http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53392/c4a2c7533918252.jpg http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53392/3c8141533918325.jpg http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53392/1abe42533918335.jpg http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53392/a66d72533918364.jpg http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53392/5e6a72533918372.jpghttp://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53395/99e64f533941674.jpg http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53392/dd7994533918350.jpghttp://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53392/b803dd533918282.jpg http://thumbnails117.imagebam.com/53392/83482a533918310.jpg
