I came across this lens in a thrift shop in a glass case setting face down. It was very dirty and looked in poor shape. I noted the 1.4 on the aperture ring and decided to take a look. I was pleasantly surprise to turn it over and see what it was! I had been looking to purchase one of these to compare with my Auto Sears 55mm 1.4, since they look optically identical. After a good cleaning, I was pleased with the overall condition of the glass. Other than a slight dent on the edge of the filter threads it now looks aged but clean. Took it out for a few photos and it didn't disappoint. Compared to my Auto Sears 55mm the lens has a slight yellow tent. This is probably due to thorium in the glass.
At any rate, this a very nice lens to have in anyone collection. if you look around you can pick them up cheap. | |

I love this lens!
I was fortunate to find this as part of a local auction lot. I picket up the entire lot for $119. I have already sold some of the lessor items and made beck my purchase price!!:D
The lens is about the sharpest I've used on my Sony A6000. My copy is the M42 version and came mounted on an Icarex 35S. The focus and aperture rings are smooth with non clicking motion in the aperture ring.
The lens produces a wonderful bokeh while still being very sharp wide open! I even like the lens flare it produces.
The lens came with two of the original Zeiss lens hoods and a set of Zeiss close up filters. Unfortunately the UV and polarizer filters that also came with it had issues and are not usable.
Other than the lens requiring a Zeiss B50 filter type and the lens being somewhat heavy, I have nothing bad to say about this lens.

Picked up this lens at an auction as part of a set along with a Tower 32A (Sears) Camera. This camera is also known as a "Mamiya Prismat NP" Included was a Mamiya / Sekor FC 135mm 2.8 and 35mm 2.8. Unfortunately the 135mm has a frozen focus ring and the the 35mm has a small stuff on the rear lens.
The 58mm however is in very nice condition!!
The only issue I had was the aperture trigger mechanism prevents the lens from mounting on the Fotasy adaptor without removing the trigger cover. Another brand of adaptor with a slightly smaller diameter would work perfectly.
At any rate, the lens is very nice! I really like the bokeh and the sharpness is really good too! The photos are from my first attempts at using the lens.
