I like Rikenon lenses which I find of great quality for a great price. 28mm 2.8 is not an exception. Very sharp, very easy to focus (noticeably easier than Pentax), nice colors, decent built quality. Amazing lens for such a moderate price. I was able to get better pictures than with DA 40 2.8 Limited. BTW, no evil pin on this lens, comes off with no problem. Grab one before the prices go up. You won't regret.
I give it a 10 not because I am overexcitable but because, in my opinion, this lens deserves it even compared to some of the limiteds.

I bought this lens for a very nice price and thought it was a bargain as the lens had 1:1 Macro and an "A". Unfortunately my expectations did not realize.
First, the "A" setting did not work. It probably was my bad luck with that particular copy but I read here on the forum that somebody else had the same problem with an older Sigma lens so it looks like quite a common defect.
Second, the build quality was poor. The focusing ring was covered by cheap rubber which had some strange feel. The previous owner obviously was trying to clean the lens with some solvent, which damaged the rubber and it was increasingly hard to turn. After several shots it almost got stuck.
Finally, I was not satisfied with the image quality. Colors were OK but sharpness was not very impressive at all. Indoor shots were disappointing.
I do not take the liberty to recommend or not to recommend this lens. I would advice to try it before buying. Probably you will have a different experience.

This is a fantastic lens. Believe it or not but this lens retired my Pentax-A 50/1.7.
Although it has an automatic aperture on Rikoh cameras on Pentax it does not work, as the "A" contact position is different from Pentax. So you need to stop-down. In regard to the notorious rikenon pin I can say that I have had no problem on my K100D Super -- easy to mount and easy to take of. The pin itself is a tiny ball-like thing which does not jam anywhere but I can only speak for my camera model.
Compared to Pentax-A focusing is easier and smoother. The lens itself is a bit lighter and more compact than Pentax. Colors, sharpness, bokeh are very good. Great pictures both indoors and outdoors.
Here are some sample photos that I took with this lens:

For some reason this lens is not well known although, to my opinion, it is a very decent performer and one of the best budget 70-210 zooms. It is very light and much smaller than, for example, Pentax F70-210. It is capable of producing great portraits with beautiful bokeh at around 150mm. Macro is 1:4.5 which is not very impressive but still very helpful. The downside is that this lens is not well suited for indoors but for this price you won't get a faster zoom of this range anyways. It is pretty sharp, just a bit behind Pentax F70-210 as far as I can compare -- you really need to look full-size to notice the difference. Overall, it is a nice fully automatic and very easy to handle zoom which costs half the price of similar Pentax lens.
