Found this lens on e-bay late last year. Claimed to be brand new and certainly looked it. I was the only bidder. I am really pleased with the performance of this lens. I purchased it to replace my sigma 24mm super-wide that has siezed up. It out performs the sigma on all counts. The lens is sharp at all apertures, and has good contrast. Not really a true macro lens, as close focus is a property of wide angle prime lenses, that said the shots taken with this lens at close focus have been excellent. My two niggles with this lens are that the focus ring turns in the other direction to Pentax lenses and the paint finish is very soft and susceptible to scratching. In the past Cosina has not had the best reputation. But I have heard that it was subcontracted to manufacture Nikon lenses in the past. Also the optics made for Cosina's Voightlander range are superb, so maybe we should not be surprised that they have made such a good lens. Not sure when this lens was available in the shops, but if you can find one in good condition buy it, you will not regret it.

There is very little that I can say is good about this lens apart from its zoom range for film. It is soft at all settings and very soft wide open. You always had to be aware of were the sun was as lens flare was a constant problem. I just remembered something good about this lens, Sigma do not make it any more.

I have this lens with a Pentacon FM that I inherited from a relative who purchased it in 1957. I have never used it on digital but have obtained consistently good results with film. It is much slower to use than lenses that appeared just a few years later. This is not a bad thing as it makes you consider your shots more. A surprisingly sharp lens and is good even wide open. Some people may think it produces images that are a bit too cold as compared to modern lenses. It does suffer from lens flare that I put down to the early lens coatings not being that good, but this is solved to the greater extent by a lens hood. My copy is now a bit stiff to focus, but then again it is over 50 years old. To really appreciate this lens use it on a 1950's Pentacon camera, all the controls are a little bit odd and nothing is automatic and this lens makes perfect sense. When this lens was made East Germany was still making serious photographic equipment and not the cheap and cheerful stuff made in the 70,s and 80,s that were all about getting hold of foreign exchange to prop up a failing economy.

This is a super lens. The results I have got from this lens have been excellent at all focal lengths. I was concerned that I could not use filters at the front of the lens very easily and that the front element is unprotected, but this proved unfounded. The build and finish on this lens is superb. My lens is 6 years old now and still feels like new and the crackled finish seems to repel scratches. Clever lens hood that has a separate sleeve for the fixed hood that really helps cut down flair used with a digital camera.
