Please do not trust the many misleading Biometar picture samples found in the internet, notably on flickr. These samples are very often mushy, have so poor contrast, poor colors, I'm even often wondering how the photographers did them. This lens has in reality amazing contrast and micro contrast. It is as sharp as other lenses in this range (compared to Tamron 72BB and Pentax M 2/85). Colors are superb. Handling is top. Get it. https://abload.de/img/imgp0508-xslukkk.jpg Another sample

I have the classical zebra as well. I agree with the comments below, rendition can be spectacular. I suspect this lens is very good in macro. The pic below used a 12mm spacing ring and has been done at f/11 : https://abload.de/img/imgp0321-sbrudi.jpg

This lens requires a psychological shift from what we got from Pentax in terms of small, light lenses. This thing is at least 3-4 times bigger and heavier than the DA15 or M20 (I know, you can't compare because the Samyang is full frame and 2.8, however it seems like Samyang engineers must be very big, strong types). Once you'll recover (grin) from this initial impression, you'll be very surprised by the absolutely excellent images this lens produces. Stunning. You'll also learn how to manage it: focusing, optimizing DOF, avoiding direct sunlight etc. to obtain best results. Distortion is quite heavy and might be a problem for people not using LightRoom (I'm on Linux).

First a little background: normally, I'm a stinking conservative user of prime, manual lenses (and 'full frame whiner') and my kit consists basically of K (i.e. poor man's Limiteds), M and M42 lenses. However after last holidays I felt like being tired of shlepping the heavy bag and moreover, swapping lenses every 5 minutes or so, and finally missing some shots due to late readyness. I began to look around and was very impressed by the reviews of this Tamron thingy. The marvelous samples at pbase.com finally convinced me to at least give it a try. So the thingy is now at home and it got already extensive usage. I am seeing the following: - regarding my heavy bag, I have to say that this lens weights and sizes approx. like 2 primes, so that my initial downsizing goal is a bit missed. However it requires less lens swapping, and is autofocus, so that my agility goal is fulfilled. - I am a bit wary concerning the build quality. This is a plastic lens and does not feel like it will last for the next four decades, like my other lenses. However my copy had not the much feared front/back focus problems (when buying be sure to test it thoroughly with a focusing chart). - Optically this zoom performs as promised! IQ is excellent from f/4 to f/11, best at f/5.6-8. It seems to be nearly as sharp as my primes! Color rendering is very good (different from Pentax colors, but very nice, seducing and vivid), and contrast is amazing. On the downside i might add that overall rendering is not up to Pentax prime rendering, but that might be understandable. Also, bokeh cannot be compared with good prime bokeh. I am surely spoiled by all the pixie dust in my K primes!

This is an evolution of the highly regarded 52B. It reaches 1:1 macro without tubes and got a modified formula (internal focusing). Colors, rendering, bokeh are stunning. Constructed like a tank. The focusing ring rotates about 3/4 of a circle; that may sound ok, however at larger magnifications focusing becomes very sensitive. At times, I dream of a focusing ring with much more rotation. Indicated price is without the P/KA adapter, for which I had to spend an additional 80$. P/K adapters are way cheaper. Sample below with no PP whatsoever, only JPG conversion with IrfanView.
