for a wide angle incredibly small and lightweight lens, although wide nice solid feel very sharp with very vivid colour rendering in most aspects on par with Pentax SMC 20mm F4 which I bought to replace it

A beautiful small short telephoto lens which I adapted via leitax mount to my Pentax slrs. Later on it was replaced with FA77/1.8, which was eventually replaced by DA70 and K85/1.8. Comparing Contax lens to those Pentax lenses I think it was most similar to DA70 optically. Very very sharp lens with high contrast. Nice colour rendering. Low chromatic aberations, negligible distortion. Very well build body, very discreet and small lens, great for street photography. Pitty I got K85/1.8 later, it would be interesting to compare those two lenses side by side. Recommended lens if you don't mind manual focusing.

I bought this lens long time ago, in a search for wide prime but I sold it quite quickly. Optically it didn't offer any advantage over DA16-45/4 which I had at a time...and when I bought K 18/3.5 (which was superior to both) the days of Tamron were counted. The only advantage of the lens was it was very cheap, but so are modern zooms da16-45 or 17-70 today and frankly both are better than this old Tamron prime, hence it doesnt make any sense to buy this anymore.

A very good lens, on par with FA43 Limited in terms of sharpness and colour rendition, although not so convenient to use as FA Limited... In terms of build quality I believe original Pentax lenses, aka K lenses have a bit better, more substantial feel and bit smoother focusing....but Contax is not slouch either...

A very good landscape lens besting perhaps all ultrawides I have tried (K18/3.5, DA16-45, Tamron SP 17/3.5 and K20/4)in resolution. It has quite nice colour rendition too. Since it is A-lens its use on Pentax is very convenient. Focusing is tricky, because lens has a huge focusing throw for an ultrawide....Live view may be handy, but it also has a huge depth of focus. Overall I'm very positive about the lans but since I like to use ND filters for long exposure I decided to sell it eventually and look out for K20/4, a great lens too.

I 've used this lens for while alongside DA16-45 and K18/3.5. The Pentax lenses were visibly better. Tamron was soft even stoped down and pictures lacked detail, built in filters are not that useful for digital bodies. Stop down metering was pretty much wild guess. The only advantage is that it's relatively cheap compared to other UWA primes, but maybe look for well regarded zooms like Tamron 17-50.
