What a find ! The build quality on this old lens is superb. Solid. Heavy glass. Oozing workmanship. Smooth action. Superb lens coating . Much better than the 35-80mm version . Image quality is fantastic. If not better than my new sigma 17-70mm f2.8 that I paid over £300. It looks so balanced on my K5 Great for indoor flash portraits and white balance rendering. So good I purchased another one and also one for my Canon camera. Don't be put off by the sticky decay of the outer rubber. Easy to remove completely with simple alcohol wipes and brings these old beauties up to scratch . Love this lens If you see one , buy it

Value for money Picked mine up for £15 on eBay. Not so good in low light. But to be expected Typical colour rendition with pentax Nice punchy greens and reds. I have compared this with the 55-300mm and other 300mm lenses and have to say this sigma gem is my favourite . I think the tamron 70-300mm usd VR on canon has the edge on image sharpness. Set your camera to Tav mode. Sharpest sweet spot is f7.1. I usually get shutter speeds over 1/1000sec and get ISO values at 800 or less for outdoor sports and wildlife using Tav mode. It hunts a little for continuous AF but for if you get lucky it's on the money for very nice shots . This lens is for the price fantastic and at 300mm I haven't seen any of the other lenses matching it. And it looks so good and balanced on my K5 body. I am on the look out for another one .

I must have a good copy . I gasp at the poor reviews of this lens . On my K5 it is probably my most used outdoor lens. It looks so balanced and cool on the K5 . Landscapes are so sharp at f10. Classic pentax lens rich colour and contrast . Always on the search to buy another one. I can't rate this lens better . value for money . Easy to remove the tacky black rubber on the barrel. Great for pet photography . Good for sky and cloud shots with filters. Luv it

For your money this lens is superb . I use this as my default mid zoom range on my Pentax K5 . Surprisingly good in low light . Lovely bokeh . Great for portraits and pet shots . Good colours . I have 2 of these lenses . I paid only £10/15 for on eBay . In fact I have sold off several of the newer digital sigma lenses in preference for this older lens. If you can get a calendar one without the decay of the rubber on the barrel you won't regret it.
