contrast a bit flat below f5.6
aperture not always even
flares in most outdoor situations
recommend the sears lens over ricoh due to being easier to find and normally equal price or cheaper

good build quality which was unexpected, actually prefer it over the takumars when shooting with kodak technical pan, ilford sfx or agfa apx
colour wise its more neutral/natural when using e6 and c41 film
at f5.6 contrast is in between rikenon and takumar, infact f2.8 the contrast is good and f4 very good with no massive shift in colour unlike the takumars

this lense is mostly used as a lenses cap and video shooting on my canon dslr as the aperture is not snappy enough in auto mode, so I've declicked the aperture.
the lens has ok sharpness but low contrast, use a polariser and/or hood to get the most out of it
the average resolving power of this lense is about half your sensor resolution @ f4 (example 12 megapixel becomes 6 megapixel)
on a full frame camera overall light transmission wide open is almost half a stop slower due to the heavy vignetting.
If you can get this lense for dirt cheap, its worth considering as a lense cap and beater for street video shooting on 1.6x crop cameras, if you have 4/3rd's (2x crop) or full frame skip this to save space in your camera bag

I've owned 3 of them, all of them needed infinity reset
on aps-c you get swirly bokah reminiscent of the Helios 44 between f2.8 and f5 (found out when i delicked one for video shooting on a canon SL1/100d) now its been used on a canon 5d mark 3 after i was finally convinced to trade it with a super takumar 50/1.4 with a serious fungal infection (every element completely webbed bar the radioactive one
one of my other copies had bubbles at the edges of the front element, needless to say this one was was sharper than my CZJ Tessar 50/2.8 @ f5.6 to f11
and my final copy survived a swim in the sea with a Pentax MV (RIP) but image quality is still alot better than most kit zoom lens
by the way the coating is non insistent on most copies you pickup today so use a hood
as for the price i got all of the lens for $1nzd
